Asthma is the most common medical condition in children and young people; it is vital that all healthcare professionals working with this age group appreciate and understand the diagnostic process and appropriate management options for individual children.

 


Course content/learning outcomes

 

After completing this course on childhood asthma, the learner will gain confidence in:

 

  • Diagnosing childhood asthma, using a structured and 'cautious' approach
  • Understanding what tests are available to help diagnose asthma
  • Applying the correct therapeutic management options, using up to date guidelines
  • A demonstration of a range of inhaler devices, using videos
  • How to manage an acute exacerbation of asthma
  • How to encourage the child and their family to self manage their asthma
  • Discuss which wider teams are able to support the child with asthma in their local area
