The Musculoskeletal (MKS) assessment is a crucial component of primary care, as musculoskeletal conditions are among the most common reasons patients seek medical attention. These conditions can range from acute injuries and overuse syndromes to chronic diseases such as arthritis and osteoporosis.

Importance of MKS Assessments.

Musculoskeletal issues often significantly impact patients' quality of life, functional ability, and overall health.  Early and accurate assessment in primary care settings enables timely intervention, which can prevent complications, improve outcomes, and reduce the burden on specialised care services.

Course content/learning outcomes

• Undertake a thorough history for MSK presentations in adults (focus in Hip, back and neck ) Same session can be offered for (Upper limb and knee)
• Evaluate information for red flags
• Examination (guided by video)
• Analyse assessment findings and develop differential diagnoses
• When is MSK not MSK (assessment of wide spread pain and what other systems this can imitate)
