Red Flags Prioritising Clinical Signs and Symptoms
This training session supports clinicians involved in patient triage to confidently assess, identify and exclude red flags that may indicate serious illness or injury requiring urgent intervention or referral. Using a structured, evidence‑based approach, the course strengthens decision‑making, improves risk assessment and enhances patient safety across a wide range of primary care presentations.
Clinicians will explore what constitutes a red flag, how to take an effective history both remotely and face‑to‑face, and how to apply a multi‑professional approach to escalation. The session also covers safety‑netting, review mechanisms, clerking and clinical governance to support robust documentation and continuity of care.
Common primary care presentations reviewed include:
- Headache
- Back pain
- Gastrointestinal symptoms
- Respiratory presentations
- Diabetes‑related concerns
- Neurological symptoms
- Chest pain
Ideal for GPs, nurses, HCAs and allied health professionals seeking to enhance triage accuracy, prioritisation skills and early recognition of serious illness.
